Gainsborough is town based in West Lindsey the district of Lincolnshire. In the Dark Ages Gainsborough was a capital city of Mercia. Attractions in the town of Gainsborough include: Gainsborough’s main church ‘All Saints’. Gainsborough Old Hall which is one of the best preserved manor houses in Britain, it’s a large 15th century timber-framed medieval strong house. There’s a fabulous Great Hall and a Brick Tower. King Henry VIII stayed at the Old Hall in 1541 as well as King Richard III in 1483. Gainsborough Castle is an 11th century earthwork motte with baileys fortress. They say the castle is best seen at Winter as there is dense coverage from the trees. Every year in the second week of June, Gainsborough Riverside Festival takes place which is an arts and heritage event.
