Hartlepool is a large town in the Northeast of England with a population of around 95,000 residents. He was re-elected by a landslide in the 2005 election crushing the nearest rival Labour candidate by over 10,000 votes.
Hartlepool has a diverse architectural heritage, with the town being able to boast over two hundred listed buildings alongside a revised town centre and a new marina. Hartlepool Power Station is a nuclear powered power plant which opened in the 1980’s the structure is at best brutally ugly.
Hartlepool is due to host The Tall Ships Race in 2010. The town will welcome over 125 tall ships sailing from Kristiansand in Norway in the penultimate leg of the Tall Ships race. The event will showcase the Hartlepool and reinforce its growing reputation of being a great visitor destination.
Famous residents from the town include; Janick Gers the guitarist for rock band Iron Maiden, a famous film director Sir Ridley Scott and most famously of all Jeff Stelling host of Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports.
