SEO stands for search engine optimization, and is a way of making sure you end up in the top ranks of a search that your customers might perform. You can take steps to ensure that you are in the top rankings, and here are 6 quick steps to good SEO.
Step 1: Choosing a Domain Name
Try to get one that uses the search term your clients will enter in the search engine. Use suffixes, like .org, .net, etc., if yours is already taken. If you already have a name, use a secondary domain name with the search term that links up with the primary site.
Step 2: Good Content Writing
SEO content includes those keywords and key phrases mentioned above that your customer will enter in the search engines. Make sure you use enough, but don’t oversaturate--2% is optimum.
Step 3: Metatags
The metatag is found in your website’s coding, and should include the search term once again. SEO rankings are improved a lot by this practice.
Step 4: Backlinks
The number of people who link to your site tells the search engines that your site is important. However, don’t trade links--search engines can see through that practice--and use only sites that are relevant to your business or organization.
Step 5: Keyword Limitations
Make sure each page has only one or two keywords. If you need more, put them on other pages and again, keep them isolated. This prevents dilution of keywords and poor writing flow.
Step 6: Use Clear Writing
Search engines insist that the wording be clear and understandable. Sometimes people just throw down a bunch of keywords and it makes no sense. They may be at the top of the rankings for a few minutes, but the search engines will pull them down fast.
